Unmatched Vacation Experience! It was a delight to sail with Jason and Lara aboard Tahina. Our goal for our charter vacation was to unplug and relax, and Jason and Laura curated the perfect experience for this. Our charter aboard Tahina exceeded our expectations. I’d like to say it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but sincerely hope to do it again. From our pre-charter Zoom meeting with Jason and Lara to our dinghy ride back to the dock, we felt welcomed and as if the entire experie.

My partner, Bob Crandall, and I just returned from a glorious week aboard Tahina, with Captains Jason and Lara. What a team! The experience was tailor-made for us in every way. If we wanted an active day they provided it, such as paddle boarding or swimming with sharks! If we wanted to be mellow and just sail along in the breeze…we did just that. The accommodations were clean, comfortable, and private. The food was prepared fresh at each meal with sophisticated meal planning, and even that was.

We were fortunate enough to spend an incredible 3 days with Lara & Jason in January, and can’t more highly recommend them for your next sailing adventure. From the moment we stepped on board, we felt welcomed and taken care of, with no detail missed. The boat itself is beautiful, spacious, and comfortable with thoughtful touches such as a personalized welcome sign and reusable water bottles available for the trip. From the warm and friendly “welcome aboard!” on Day One to the hugs and well-wishes on the last day, we enjoyed every moment of our vacation sailing the Exumas! Great times with great people! Jason and Lara made this trip one to remember! The snorkeling and exploring was phenomenal. I so enjoyed diving for conch and spending the day learning how to clean and prepare the conch. It was also a lot of fun exploring the various cays with the abandoned buildings, iguanas, and beaches! The food was phenomenal, keeping us on our toes with different recipes every night. It was a wonderful time because of the people and the friends we found on the way. Bravo Jaso.

What an amazing trip with the Ocean Adventure Cat team. Captain Jason and First Mate Lara were incredibly hospitable, friendly, knowledgeable, and most importantly, fun! The crew of Tahina met while racing J/24 sailboats in 2004 and have sailed and cruised together ever since, eventually marrying in 2014. After sailing their current yacht, Tahina, from Panama to New Zealand as crew for her original owners, Captain Jason and Chef Lara purchased her in 2018. They have since fully refit her to the latest standards, creating the ideal platform for sharing their passions for sailing, water sports, and island life with guests.


Captain Jason Decker
Captain Jason holds an RYA Yachtmaster Ocean qualification, earned after years of competing at the highest levels of the J/24 one-design sailing class, as well as in numerous other one-design and handicap-rated sailing events around the world — from Europe to the Americas and New Zealand — coupled with a half-circumnavigation. Jason is also a qualified PADI Divemaster, an avid kiteboarder and sailor, and enjoys a morning paddleboard or surfing session whenever he can squeeze one in. He is also well known for creating delicious breakfasts at sea.

Chef Lara Ortiz
Raised in South Florida by an avid fisherman and all-around salty-living fanatic, Lara has been snorkeling, boating, and paddling for as long as she can remember. She has sailed well over 15,000 nautical miles over the years and, in addition to being the lead culinary artist on board, now focuses on helping guests plan and experience vacations of a lifetime. Lara is an expert at whipping up delicious treats to suit every craving, loves getting to know the nooks and crannies of the places they travel, and excels at matching guests’ interests with the perfect itinerary for their trip.
