The food was very good. I was particularly impressed with her ability to navigate our situation which included 1 vegetarian, 2 lactose intolerant, and 1 committed carnivore. All the meals prepared had something that made everyone happy and I’m sure it wasn’t easy to construct a menu within those constraints for 3 meals a day. Tethered swims, floating in the water chairs, and of course the infamous Dirk rescue mission to save the fallen beer and coozie! We celebrated a week with family and friends in a charter over New Year's. It will be a time we will never forget. Our experience aboard Le Rêve was awesome.. So where do I begin? We started in Newport first loading our gear and then having lunch ashore. We departed from the fuel dock at the Newport yachting center as perotti’s were not accommodating despite dirk having cleared it with them the night before! Our itinerary week 1 was block island to cuttyhunk to menemsha to Hadley’s harbor to Nantucket and then MV. Weather was perfect except for a lack of wind! Lots of swimming, paddle boarding, card games. Fun cocktails, meals as requested - lit.

You made our vacation truly a wonderful experience. You kept our 13, 13, and 11 year old boys totally engaged and off their devices as much as possible. What a way to celebrate turning 40! Such an experience with the gourmet meals, drinks in hand, stories, relaxation and overall 5 star hospitality on board. We had an awesome time aboard Catatonic 500 with Sandy and Dirk sailing the Leeward Islands of St Maarten, St Barth's and Anguilla for 10 days. There were 6 of us, my wife and I, our two teenage daughters , and two of their friends. This was the 3rd time we chartered with Catatonic (Twice in the BVI) We would charter with them whenever possible! Absolute best vacation ever! Not sure how we will ever top it! The crew were the perfect match for our group! Captain really knows everything that there is to know about sailing and the BVI's! We Loved Every Single Minute of It
We enjoyed being on the boat, going to the different spots, letting me sail a bit (absolutely loved that return from Anegada to Marina Cay), and generally taking our foot off the brake for a while as we had fun down there with you all. You showed us so much from the busier anchorages in Jost Van Dyke to the more remote spots like Brewer's Bay, it really checked all the boxes. Grins and Memories for a Lifetime!
Our family can't thank you enough for recommending the Catatonic for our vacation. We had the most incredible time, each day was a great adventure that I really can't describe appropriately. Each snorkel spot was a little different than the last. We docked in cool spots with exactly the sort of the things we like to do. Snorkeling with huge Tarpon, bouldering and jumping off big rocks or big boats, colorful fish and coral, hiking and playing on pristine beaches, etc. I can't say enough great .

When we arrived it was apparent that we all were in need of a vacation, however what we got was so much more. Over the last week we received a plethora of memories, 5-star meals and incredible scuba dives. From lobster to turtles to Natalie's lobster tan, the islands have offered us wonders of nature and in return we hope to bring help in any way we can in order to rebuild this beautiful place. DirkAfter receiving his Ph.D. from Columbia University, Dirk started his career in education, ultimately working his way into the field of technology. His land-based career offered him the opportunity to work in locations around the globe such as Switzerland, Brazil and China. His last post before casting off the dock lines was serving as Chief Technology Officer for a New York City based global education company.
Dirk started sailing solo at 5 years old, crossed the Pacific Ocean from LA to Honolulu at 14 as part of a racing crew, and has been leading yacht charters around the world for over 25 years!
Some of his favorite destinations are French Polynesia and the British Virgin Islands which he first visited in 1981. He is an avid water sports enthusiast and will be happy to lead you on SCUBA dives in the best locations, snorkeling, tubing, wake boarding, knee boarding, kayaking, SUPing, deep sea fishing, and even provide an introduction to kite boarding.
Dirk also has a Mavic Pro drone aboard and will be happy to record breathtaking footage of your dream vacation aboard Le Rêve.
Captain Dirk is a highly experienced US Coast Guard certified 100 Ton Master Captain, PADI Divemaster and an award-winning bartender mixing up craft cocktails for the guests!
Chef/Captain Sandy loves preparing delicious meals for guests and introducing people to the seafaring lifestyle! She stars in her very own cooking show called “Cooking with Yacht Chef Sandy” and loves to showcase meals she makes aboard for her Roku TV and YouTube viewers.
Prior to taking to the ocean, she led the Corporate life, having worked Internationally in Australia, Italy, London, India and Thailand. She spent her first career on Wall Street in technology-related roles for a Fortune 100 Firm and a few extra years as a Management Consultant, also in Technology. These experiences have played in to the professionalism she brings to managing her galley and understanding the needs and desires of guests on board.
Sandy has been cooking since the age of 10 and she loves to get creative in the galley and serve up tasty snacks and beautiful meals to the guests. In addition to serving as Chef aboard, Sandy is also a PADI Divemaster and a USCG Certified 100 Ton Master Captain with blue water experience on the high seas. Some of Sandy’s favorite spots are the Virgin Islands (especially Waterlemon Cay!) and the Exuma Islands of the Bahamas.
Dirk and Sandy have been in the Virgin Islands charter industry since 2007, first as yacht owners with hired crew aboard. In 2013, they deepened their commitment to yachting, adding a 38’ day charter motor yacht based in New York to the fleet. 2015 brought a second motor yacht operating day charters in Long Island Sound and their charter operation was running in full swing.
Sandy and Dirk are now owner/operators of the amazing 2017 Lagoon 620 Essence Edition, Le Rêve, where their professional C-suite background, intimate knowledge of sailing and the islands, experience in hospitality, celebrity chef experience and history in the marine industry, combine to provide the penultimate experience for their charter guests.
